Fijian Picture
This picture was created especially for us by Epeli, who was an inmate at Naboro Maximum Security prison in Fiji. Epeli is an incredibly talented artist, who has exhibited in several art exhibitions organised to display prisoner art. He created the picture for Learning Staircase as a result of a visit by Ros Lugg to Naboro Prison in 2010. Epeli has a philosophy of incorporating complex and fascinating symbolism into his pictures and his theme for the picture was empowering people through literacy.
